Burnett vs van Gerwen Betting: Richie Burnett can continue his strong form out in Dusseldorf with win over van Gerwen
The European Darts Open, the third leg of the PDC European Tour, has reached the last 16 stage which will be played out on Sunday afternoon and one of the potentially more intriguing matches is the one between Richie Burnett and Michael van Gerwen. As with the whole of the competition this match will be over the best of 11 legs for the right to face either Mark Walsh or James Hubbard in the quarter final.
Both men are 5/6 with Blue Square going into the match but there’s little doubt about who has thrown the better darts this weekend and that is Richie Burnett. In his first round win over Andy Jenkins he averaged over 121 in a devastating display of darts which hasn’t been seen my too many. He never quite hit those heights against Scott Rand in the second round but he did hit 10 140’s in 9 legs which is heavy scoring.
Michael van Gerwen has that devastating scoring power in his locker but we’ve not seen it just yet this week. In fact he’s struggled a wee bit coming past Wayne Jones and Brian Woods. He has seen both matches through though which will be a boost to his confidence and he knows he can slip into gear at any minute. One concern would be though that while van Gerwen’s floor game is in excellent shape his stage one still needs some work.
Richie Burnett is scoring so well this weekend and although he missed a lot of doubles against Scott Rand that could have happened at the right time so that it is a wake up call and he makes sure he has brushed up on them going into this match. van Gerwen has been known to miss doubles himself and while he has some power scoring in him he does score a lot of 59’s and 57’s which won’t be good enough here. Burnett is in excellent form and I think he should be the favourite here.
Back R.Burnett to beat M.van Gerwen for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with Blue Square
