Bridgestone Invitational Betting: Zach Johnson can pick up a third win of the year at Firestone
The next World Golf Championship takes place this week in Akron as the Bridgestone Invitational is played out by the world’s top golfers. The WGC events are always big weeks in the calendar and this particular one is big for Tiger Woods who has won this tournament no fewer than seven times. He didn’t win it last year though, that honour went to Adam Scott and the Australian is 16/1 with Bet365 to defend his title successfully.
The course at Firestone CC is a par 70 but it does measure 7400 yards so it isn’t for the faint hearted. However good temperatures are expected this week so the course won’t play that long which will be a relief to many. Although the greens aren’t the hardest to hit here they are very fast and that might just suit those who play their golf in America where greens are usually quick.
Given his insanely good record around this golf course which stands at seven wins from twelve starts it is no surprise that Tiger Woods is the 5/1 favourite for the tournament but that’s too short for me no matter how much Woods loves it around here. I will concentrate on players based on the PGA Tour and it isn’t a surprise to me that Luke Donald and Adam Scott are second and third favourites.
The PGA Tour member I like this week is Zach Johnson. Johnson is in excellent form right now and has been right up there in some big events lately. He has won twice on tour in the last couple of months and was in contention in The Open for a long way a couple of weeks ago. He’s a straight hitter who putts as well as anyone in the game and I think he can build on his sixth placed finish here last year with a stronger tilt at the title this week.
Back Z.Johnson to win Bridgestone Invitational (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 31.00 with Stan James (1/4 1-5)
