Bratchikova vs Cabeza Candela Betting: Nina Bratchikova should have a decent edge over her today's opponent
Bojana Jovanovski, our pre-tournament favourite, has started her Baku campaign with a tough victory over Lesya Tsurenko, so let's hope that she can take that even further. She is now going to meet Valeria Solovieva and that should be an interesting match, but there is no point in taking any bets from that one (Jovanovski is a decent favourite in my opinion, but the handicap is a touch big), so let's look at some of the other match-ups.
Nina Bratchikova, who has managed to defeat Patricia Mayr in the first round, is going to take on Estrella Cabeza Candela and I do fancy her chances in that one. Pinnacle are offering more than 1.80 for her win and I would say that she has an even bigger edge than the odds suggest.
There is a fundamental difference between the two when it comes to playing styles. Cabeza Candela is a typical clay court specialist. She loves playing longer rallies and she is very consistent from the baseline, but her shots lack power and she is not great when it comes to hitting winners. On the other hand, Nina Bratchikova spends most of her time on hard courts and she certainly has what it takes to out-muscle someone line Cabeza Candela. Consistency might be a bit of a problem, but it seems that she is in a good nick right now.
This is going to be a clash of playing styles and I simply have to side with the powerful Russian in these conditions. After all, she leads the H2H record 3-1, with the only loss coming from a clay court tournament in Barcelona, where you would naturally expect Cabeza Candela to do well.
