Boxing Betting
Betting on boxing has been going on for years but these days plenty of bookmakers offer an excellent array of markets on all televised fights be it in the UK, USA and worldwide. Turnover in betting on boxing has increased dramatically with the success of British fighters at world level in recent years as well as PPV fights very much coming to the fore.
Tournaments like the Super Six and Prizefighter have really lit up boxing betting with punters now able to get a decent punt on an outright winner of an event, like they can in football or tennis, for the first time in boxing history and in the case of Prizefighter it’s all action and all over in one night which is perfect for any punter.
The main betting market for boxing is the win-draw-win market. Sometimes you can get a decent bet on this market but often fights are very one sided and the odds are very much apart between the two fighters.
A better market for punters is the round betting market. This gives punters the opportunity to predict which round of the fight the bout will end in. With most title fights being 12 rounds prices can often be rewarding for finding a winner in this market. Also in the round betting, markets are offered on round groups which groups the rounds in groups of 3 or 6 rounds giving punters more chance of finding the correct round the fight ends in. Markets are often also offered on under/over a set number of rounds which works the same as under/over 2.5 goals does in football.
The other main boxing betting market is the method of victory market. In this market bookmakers will price up each fighter and their chances of winning by KO/TKO or by decision. If you know your fighters and one has a weak chin then this can be a good market to bet on. In the really big fights, some bookmakers will offer an exact method of victory market which splits all the potential outcomes and they get priced up separately.
2012 looks set to be another fantastic year for British boxing with the likes of Nathan Cleverly, James DeGale, Kell Brook, Matthew Macklin, George Groves and Ricky Burns among many others who are looking towards huge fights. There’s also the already vastly over-hyped prospect of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr finally getting in the ring for the fight that all boxing fans want to see.
