ATP Los Angeles Betting: Brian Baker looks a bit overpriced in Los Angeles
The American tour is all about hard courts and we are indeed going to see yet another interesting hard court event this week. Los Angeles will be the main center of American tennis for the following days and the line-up includes player like Sam Querrey, Benoit Paire or Nicolas Mahut. Interestingly, the number one seed, Benoit Paire, is far from being the favourite at bookies like Stan James, but I guess that it is easy to see the reasons for that.
The first half of the draw is indeed quite tricky, so let's look at the second half instead. Sam Querrey naturally deserves to be the main favourite over there, since he is always able to raise his game on American soil. However, I would not want to back him at such short odds. But what about Brian Baker? Is not he supposed to start doing some damage in the smaller events?
The thing is, his quarter of the draw looks more than acceptable. Rajeev Ram can be a tricky match-up, but that guy is all about serve and Baker is usually quite solid when it comes to returning. You would then expect him to find his best against Kunitsyn, who managed to upset him in Atlanta just a few days ago. A match against Leonardo Mayer should follow and, once again, I would have to side with the talented American.
Baker's game should be well-suited to the American courts, since he has spent a large part of his career playing in various low-key American events, and I do expect him to get some decent results on the main tour this year. He is certainly much better than the odds might be suggesting.
