ATP Hamburg Betting: Philipp Kohlschreiber can prevail in Germany
Five interesting tournaments are on the schedule this week and we are undoubtedly going to see plenty of exciting tennis, so let's take a closer look at what might be ahead of us. The German city of Hamburg is going to welcome some of the best tennis players in the world and its impressive line-up includes names like Juan Monaco or Fernando Verdasco. Marin Cilic, who has just won a clay court tennis tournament in Umag, is the number one favourite at Bet365, but backing recent winners is not a good idea in my opinion, so I am going to look elsewhere for value.
The draw seems fairly straightforward in most sections and I simply cannot believe that we can get such a big price for Philipp Kohlschreiber. The consistent German loves playing in his home country and has already won a couple of tournaments on German soil, so backing him outright might actually be the right choice.
He is going to start his campaign against Bjorn Phau and that should allow him to pick up some pace, while the second match against Fabio Fognini will get him into the right shape before the most important duels. In theory, Nicolas Almagro should be his next opponent, but the Spaniard has picked up an injury in Bastad and that might force him out of the tournament at some point.
Virtually anything can happen after that, but I would not have the German as a big underdog against anyone in the draw. He can serve really well when on song and he will get plenty of support from the crowds. The main favourites do have some problems at the moment and Kohlschreiber might be able to take advantage of that.
