AT+T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Betting: Daniel Chopra's solid practice rounds can give him confidence to be top European
There are 10 European players teeing it up in the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Pebble Beach this week and the market for the Top European Player is a very interesting one and seems to be largely based upon reputation rather than overall form or course form. It is 3/1 the field in this market despite only having 10 runners with Martin Laird the 3/1 favourite with Stan James.
Martin Laird is undoubtedly a good golfer and has PGA Tour wins to his name but his record in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am isn’t as good as he would like it to be. He was second in his first start of 2012 but having played in this tournament twice he’s still looking to make the cut for the first time and that’s quite a worrying stat for taking a 3/1 shot.
Ian Poulter and Padraig Harrington come next in the market. Poulter is playing this event for the first time which is never ideal and this is only his second PGA event of the year so I’ll pass him over even though there’s no reason why he wouldn’t necessarily go well. Harrington has been out of form for some time now and he’s quite easy to pass over at a best price of 7/2.
Brian Davis, Alex Cejka and Greg Owen are all Europeans in the field this week but the one man who catches my eye is the Swede, Daniel Chopra. Chopra hit two holes in one on a practice round on Tuesday so seems to be swinging the club nicely going into the tournament this week and while his 2012 form has been quite poor he has finished 5th and 11th here albeit in 2006 and 2007 but he knows the course he is playing on and appears to be swinging better than his form suggests and even though practice form shouldn’t be taken as gospel, his form on this course stacks up about as good as anyone from the European contingent so I’ll take him to be the Top European this week.
