AT&T National Betting: Tiger Woods can get off to a fast start and win his opening round three ball

The first round of the AT&T National at Congressional sees the large field going out in groups of three and whenever three balls are in operation there are generally some decent prices to get stuck into. That is no different in the opening 18 holes on Thursday where a number of groups catch the eye. The marquee group of the day is the one between Tiger Woods, Nick Watney and KJ Choi where Woods is an 11/10 favourite with Skybet.

Nick Watney comes into this tournament as the defending champion but he won the tournament on a different course to this so he hasn’t got the fond memories of returning to a venue where he won a tournament like a normal defending champion would have. Watney’s still a fine player in his own right who can never be discounted but I suspect he hasn’t quite for the consistency at the minute for this course.

KJ Choi is a former winner of this tournament too and unlike Nick Watney he won it on this golf course in 2007. Choi has everything you need to go well on this course in terms of set up but his recent form has been very much lacking. There have been signs that he is coming back into form in the last couple of weeks or so but this is a big group to win when your form isn’t spot on.

That leaves Tiger Woods who was the last winner of this tournament on this course. Woods knows every inch of this place and he showed at the US Open that he has good rounds on tough courses in him. He might not have four in him in the intense cooker of competition but he certainly has good rounds in him and I think his past experiences here coupled with the progress he’s making in his game recently can see him land this three ball in the opening round.

Back T.Woods to beat N.Watney & K-J.Choi for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with Skybet
